ECE Quizzard National Finals and Some Stuff

Instead of reviewing for the contest later, i'm just writing this blog. Wala lang...
It has been quite a while now since my last post at baka mawalan ako ng fans if i don't update them. He he...

Things I did this week that will have a great impact on my future.

1. I bought Hale's second album - Twilight. I like their senti songs e. And you know what? It's my first original CD. The others are pirated. :D

2. During my third interview at P&G

Interviewer: I’m sure you know something about IDS (the function I AM applying at). Geof: NO.

3. Continuation of number2...

Interviewer: Do you really want to apply?

Geof: YES.

4. I watched Borat with Danes and Ivy at Greenbelt. It was really gross…

and funny…

and I slept half-way through it.

5. I was having a conversation with Ivy at Starbucks and I realized that when it’s time for me to own a house, I don’t want it big. I want it just right.

6. 5:30 – 8:30 Awitan Practice (choral singing)

7. Lendl, Nina, and I were helping Jayrald pick his clothes for his PhP5000-worth shopping spree at SM North. And it hit me again… I DON’T have a green shirt. And I don't think I ever had.

8. Look at the time I’ve spent the last week for the following.

Thesis:

Speaking the word: thrice

Just thinking about it: 20 minutes

Going on a meeting about it: 60 minutes

Actually doing it: 10 minutes.

Blog:

This entry alone: 60 minutes

HIV video-making contest:

Planning: 15 minutes

Editing: 720 minutes

It is one of my busiest weeks but it definitely is the least productive all weeks combined.

Nescafe Sound Skool Concert and an Early Morning Cruise

Another good weekend... he he...
We (Lendl, Nina, Jayrald, Josine, DS) all had this MEDIA passes that gave us free buffet dinner and free seats! Compared to the concerts in UP Fair, Sound Skool Concert was far better. It was held last Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium which means that it was air conditioned. Also, the big stars performed early. Bamboo concluded the concert at about 1AM. In UP, that's the time when the stars start to show up.

After that, we went to Baywalk. After a few minutes of walking around, we decided to try the cruise (MV Tennessee). But it was still out to the Bay so we had to wait. We waited at Figaro. We had coffee and couple of muffins (thanks Jayrald). When the cruise arrived, the crew told us that they're not accepting passengers anymore. But since we really wanted to try it out, we tried to make deals. It all ended up with us riding for FREE!!! Only that, there won't be any band nor would they bring us back to Baywalk. They dropped us off in the sea. he he. Seriously, they brought us to their home port.

We spent the rest of the morning at Jayrald's house in Malate. We slept for a while, took-out food from Jollibee for breakfast, and went home.

Embassy Part 2

...this time, it was at the Cafeteria. Last Friday, the contestants for the HIV video making contest were invited to have dinner with Ian King ( Kings own the Victoria Court). I went with Danes and Ivy (buti na lang may kasama na ko). There were only four schools who attended (APC, CSB, Ateneo, and UPdaBest). Ian told us na they (his organization) were expecting around 10 teams and since there were only four of us, they're hoping that no one would back out. He kept on joking na baka mamaya we were just there for dinner (hmmmm.. he he) and that soon after we leave, we'll txt him saying na "ian, we'll not be joining na". Pero hindi naman... we're serious about joining.

Wala naman akong horrifying experience that night. Ian was doing pretty much all the talking. Each of just ate a php400-meal, sat, listen, and, well... leave. Nung nasa labas na kami, Danes realized na pampalaboy pala yung suot nya! ha ha! Imagine, he was wearing a pair of slippers with matching very loose and tastas na pants. He has this band aid on his cheek pa! He he... (sorry Danes :D). Tapos, he even had my jacket na butas sa may kilikili part. wahahahaha. I think he'll be posting a more detailed description in his blog. (hahahahahha)

WEEKEND POST no2: 2nd Place, ECE Quizard

Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

He he...
Maybe Something Fishy (read previous post) really had something fishy in their food that gave me good luck.

Yan ang team namin - Tanya, Ako, Allan. And WE are the BEST... ever! It really was TEAM effort that gave us the win, and of course the prayers. You cannot single out any person and say that he/she is the most deserving. We all contributed to get those medals and that trophy!

So what happened?
There were three rounds with seven, ONLY SEVEN, questions each. A question was either trivia/objective (5pts), or problem solving (15 pts). We were able to solve pretty much everything during the 1st round. We missed 1 objective beacuse we really didn't know the answer, and 1 problem solving due to some technicality (I changed our answer from 'C' to 'D' and the stupid things was, I didn't cross out 'C'. I wrote 'D' directly above it. I wrote it over and over so it'll stand it out. It did. But the judges can still see the 'C', and unfortunately for us, they did not consider.). Two teams got perfect and La Salle missed an objective question. There were like 20 other schools who were ahead of us after round1 because of that stupid question (it was worth 15 points).

We got perfect during the 2nd round. That put us inside the top 6 (the top six will qualify for the national final).

The third round was really hard. We only had 40 points out of 65. XYZ university scored 50+ but they were really out of the match since round 1. The good thing was, La Salle only scored 30! Adding our lead in round 2 (where they missed an objective question), we had equal scores and we were tied for 1st!

You know how the story ended. You know that we lost the tie break. But we did not feel bad about it. You see, we came from behind. UP Diliman came from the point of being defeated by ABC Colleges and XYZ Universities, to the point of fighting for the top spot. That alone, was an acoomplishment. I know that we could have been 1st (if only they considered one of our answers back in rnd1). But it doesn't matter now. Masaya kami kasi nakabawi kami.

To give credit dun sa reviewer namin, heto si Lyand! ha ha. Alternate siya pero 'di kami nagpapalit... He also got a medal.. :D

Sa mga magpapalibre, WALANG CASH PRIZE! They only had two sponsors! PERC review center as the major sponsor, and another review center as the minor. Get the picture?

WEEKEND POST no1: Something Fishy

Friday, 2:30 AM

We ate at Something Fishy sa Eastwood. Grabe! Ang dami na ng tao! Eat-all-you-can, buffet style kasi e. But still, it's 2:30 AM in the morning and the place was full of, ummm..., well..., people.. he he..I went with Danes, Ivy, Nino, and Mark Carlos (DSPeeps).

So why the hell did we go there at a time when 4/5 of the Filipinos are still asleep? Bakit hindi na lang mga 7 or 8 e hanggang 10 naman yung breakfast nila? He he... Well, it's because I have a contest in Taguig the same day and we (my team mates) had to leave by 6 AM. So imagine, instead of reviewing for the contest, I was somewhere else, eating breakfast. I mean, in about 5 hours, I would be representing UP-Diliman against the likes of La Salle, Ateneo, MIT, etc. tapos yun ang ginagawa ko.. diba? he he.. Buti sana kung La Salle ang makatalo sa amin, they're the defending champions anyway. E what if XYZ University yun manalo? o kaya hindi kami magqualify for the nationals? he he... Ako pa yung nagyaya...

Anyways, the food was good. It always has been. Also, I got better value for my money than the last time I was there (with the same group). Naka1.5 plates ako! Dati, i only had a plate.

P&G Marketing Dinner

Matagal na 'to nangyari pero I feel na kailangan ko 'to ipost.

I was invited to have dinner with the Marketing guys of P&G at the Embassy Cuisine a couple of weeks ago. They told us na there were only 10 people from each school (UP, Ateneo, La Salle) who were invited. I was flattered. ahem.

The thing was, I felt OP the whole night. Imagine (especially for EEE guys), all other UP students there were from BA, Econ, and IE! They were talking about JnJ, Uniliver, Advertising, Marketing.... Ano masasabi ko? Shit diba? Natameme lang ako. Umupo. Tumango. "yeah". Kumain. Umupo. Tumango. "yeah". Para kong si Katkat - "yeah" lang ng "yeah". he he.

Eto pa! One of the recruit managers tried to break my silence by asking the question: "Geof, what are your apprehensions about P&G?". E HINDI ko alam ibig sabihin ng 'apprehension'! HOLY. HORRORS. Shit talaga! I wanted to vanish! Pero bahala na! I thought that she was asking my general thoughts about the company. So sinabi ko na: EEE students actually don't see P&G in their most wanted jobs list. Most of them will say, "ano gagawin ko dun?".

Ayun. When I learned what 'apprehension' really means, mukhang pwede na yung sagot ko... diba? he he.. Shit pa rin!

The night was really degrading. Most of the time, mayabang ako pero that time, it was just a whole new world for me. Unbelievable sight. Indescribable feeling. Soaring, tumbling, free-willing...

Pero ok na yun. I'm still applying in P&G. I was scheduled for an interview last Tuesday sana pero I had an exam (153). So they're rescheduling pa.

first time ko!

shit!
Excited talaga ako nung ginagawa ko 'tong blog kO!
wahahahaha!
I'm not supposed to post tonight because I still have lots of things to do, pero I wanted to see what my blog looks like and Blogspot won't allow me unless I post something, so..
O baka mali ako..
At di ko lang gets..
he he..
O basta.. sample lang to.
